RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mrs. Claretha Smithers Ector; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Claretha Smithers Ector has long been recognized by the citizens of this
state for the vital role that she has played in the teaching profession and her
deep personal commitment to the education of the students of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Ector has dedicated nearly four decades to molding young minds and
challenging students to achieve their utmost potential through her work in the
field of education; and
WHEREAS,
she has taught fourth, fifth, and sixth grades at Cedar Grove Elementary School
in Ellenwood, Georgia, for the past 22 years and has been instrumental in
developing a successful writing program for students; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Virginia, Mrs. Ector earned a bachelor's degree in education from
Virginia State University and a master's degree in education from Troy State
University; and
WHEREAS,
in addition to the students of Cedar Grove, she has inspired children to achieve
at Ladysmith Elementary School in Virginia and Northside Elementary School in
Griffin, where she was named Teacher of the Year in 1987; and
WHEREAS,
a peer-teacher and role model, Mrs. Ector has served as a spelling bee
coordinator, National Junior Beta Club sponsor, grade-level chairperson, and
member of the Design Leadership Team; and
WHEREAS,
she is united in love and marriage to her husband, Moses, and has been blessed
with three stepchildren and four grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
her passion for uplifting the lives of others through education and her unique
gift for finding a balance between high academic expectations and genuine
concern and care for her students serve as an example to all educators;
and
WHEREAS,
in recognition of her contributions to the students in this state, it is
abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary
commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Mrs. Claretha Smithers Ector for her sacrifice, foresight,
accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia and
recognize the positive influence she has had upon the lives and futures of
countless young people in this state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Claretha
Smithers Ector.
