A RESOLUTION


Commending Louis Off, leader of the Tybee Island Beach Task Force, for his valiant efforts to preserve Tybee Island's beaches and natural treasures; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Louis Off was born in Linwood, New Jersey, and received his degree in Architecture and Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and his Master's of Business Administration from Georgia State University; and

WHEREAS, he spent eight years in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineering Corps, four years working as a consulting engineer for MARTA, and several years building condominiums and commercial buildings before building his home on Tybee Island; and

WHEREAS, the Tybee Island Beach Task Force was formed to investigate new technology to counter beach erosion in cooperation with the ecological services of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District; and

WHEREAS, this highly committed group of citizens generously gives of their time, talent, and energy to educate others about the critical nature of beach erosion and to lobby for funding and action for effective control of Tybee Island's beach erosion; and

WHEREAS, from 2002 through 2009, Louis Off served as the chairperson of the Beach Task Force and led this action group during its creation of the Tybee Island Beach Management plan to assist both DNR and city employees in saving and improving the island's beaches; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Off continues to serves as a member of the Beach Task Force, never ceasing to work for the preservation of Tybee Island's beaches; and

WHEREAS, this dynamic and instrumental environmentalist wrote many news articles advocating for Tybee Beaches, and through his writings helped to rally support for action to save the island; and

WHEREAS, his dedication to his community is further demonstrated by his service to the Board of Oglethorpe Charter Academy and the Military Order of the World Wars; and

WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper to recognize Mr. Louis Off and the Tybee Island Beach Task Force for their dedicated efforts and many worthy projects which have contributed to the public's awareness of the need to preserve Tybee Island's natural beauty and to promote and protect the island's beaches.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Mr. Louis Off for his valiant efforts in preserving Georgia's treasured Tybee Island.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Louis Off.
