A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life and memory of Mr. James Goodman Baker; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mr. James Goodman Baker on February 18, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Baker was born on February 10, 1924, in Florence, Alabama, and spent most of his life in Atlanta, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Army Signal Corps from 1942 to 1946; and

WHEREAS, a well-respected businessman and true entrepreneur, Mr. Baker began his career as a buyer for Sherman Stores Company; became the proud owner of Baker Motor Company, Inc., in 1965; organized Baker Imported Auto Parts in 1969; created Advanced Computer Systems, Inc., in 1977; and started American Digital Products in 1981; and

WHEREAS, an active member in his community, Mr. Baker served as president of Atlanta International Raceway, American Baker Corporation, and Centre Ice; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Baker was united in love and marriage to Eleanor Sherman Baker in 1946 and spent 66 years living, loving, working, traveling, and laughing together; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Baker will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. James Goodman Baker and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. James Goodman Baker.
