A RESOLUTION


Commending the Blairsville Scottish Festival and Highland Games; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the annual Blairsville Scottish Festival and Highland Games will be held on June 11-13, 2010, at Meeks Park in Blairsville, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the event celebrates Scottish heritage and provides an introduction to Scottish foods, athletics, music, and dance to those not sufficiently fortunate to be of Scottish heritage; and

WHEREAS, included in the festivities will be Scottish clan gatherings, pipe and drum bands, a parade of tartans, sheep herding, music workshops, a Scottish village exhibit, and competitions in tossing the caber, tossing the sheaf, and weight toss for distance; and

WHEREAS, the games promote cooperation and good will between the Scottish clans and those in the United States; and

WHEREAS, hundreds of people, Scots and non-Scots alike, from throughout the United States and the world are expected to attend this wonderful event which is sponsored by the festival organizing committee; and

WHEREAS, such celebrations of the cultural diversity of the people of Georgia are to be welcomed and encouraged by all Georgians.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize the Blairsville Scottish Festival and Highland Games as a fun-filled event promoting cultural diversity and acceptance, commend the efforts of the festival organizing committee for sponsoring such a fantastic event, and extend best wishes to the people of Blairsville and the surrounding area for a successful weekend.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the festival organizing committee.
