RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mr. Aspinwall Hodge "Pat" Redd; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mr. Aspinwall Hodge "Pat" Redd on March 11, 2012;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Redd was born on April 1, 1913, in Savannah, Georgia, a beloved son of
Reverend Samuel Tyler Redd and Mattie Gertrude Kent; and
WHEREAS,
he attended Lincoln University where he lettered in basketball and track and
earned an associate's degree in 1934; and
WHEREAS,
he was employed by the United States Postal Service and retired after 35 years
of service; opened Redd Employment Agency, which grew and allowed many domestic
workers to find viable employment; had a career with the Pennsylvania Justice
Department as a special investigator; and became a licensed real estate agent
with the Urban Developers Agency where he managed and sold many properties in
University City; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Redd volunteered as a youth counselor for Wharton Settlement, was a member
of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and NAACP, and a founding charter member of the
Zeta Omicron Chapter at Lincoln University; and
WHEREAS,
a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Redd was an active member of Reeve Memorial
Presbyterian Church where he was a teacher, church school superintendent, and
trustee and later reconnected to the Butler Presbyterian Church founded by his
father and became a member of the Fellowship and Cultural Affairs ministries;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Redd was united in marriage to Harriet Adams Riley and was blessed with five
remarkable daughters, Deborah, Patricia, Carolyn, Joyce, and Lisa;
and
WHEREAS,
he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he
demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of
his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Redd will long be remembered for his love
of family and friendship, and this loyal son, father, and friend will be missed
by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Aspinwall Hodge "Pat" Redd
and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mr. Aspinwall Hodge "Pat" Redd.
