A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the 2011-2012 Georgia Tech women's basketball team; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Georgia Tech women's basketball team, under the exceptional guidance of Head Coach MaChelle Joseph, has made history and broken numerous school records in its outstanding 2011-2012 season; and

WHEREAS, the 24-8 Yellow Jacket squad has already tied a school record for most wins in a season and set a school record with 12 wins in the Atlantic Coast Conference; and

WHEREAS, their phenomenal performance has earned the team a number 13 ranking in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and a number 15 ranking in the Associated Press Poll; and

WHEREAS, the team advanced on a seven-game winning streak into the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament to the championship game for only the second time in Georgia Tech history; and

WHEREAS, the Yellow Jackets received their sixth consecutive invitation to the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, earning a school-first number four seed position; and

WHEREAS, the team has been led in its success by ACC All-Tournament First Team members Sasha Goodlett and Tyaunna Marshall and ACC All-Freshman Team member Sydney Wallace; and

WHEREAS, the entire 2011-2012 Georgia Tech women's basketball team has demonstrated the highest level of academic, moral, and athletic qualities expected of Georgia Tech's student athletes; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned their well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly fitting and proper that they be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the 2011-2012 Georgia Tech women's basketball team for their outstanding accomplishments and heartily congratulate the Yellow Jackets on their success during the 2011-2012 season.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach MaChelle Joseph.
