A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mr. Dick Grube; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mr. Dick Grube on March 29, 2010; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, Mr. Grube served as a guardian of this
nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Army as an aviator,
valiantly and courageously serving in Korea, Vietnam, Panama, Peru, and
Columbia; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Grube was a member of the 7th Infantry Division in Korea, where he was
recognized with the United States Commendation Medal, and commanded the
Headquarters Cavalry Troop, 1/9 Cavalry Squadron in Vietnam, where he was
awarded the Air Medal and Bronze Star; and
WHEREAS,
he demonstrated an unyielding commitment to protecting the people and ideals of
the United States during his 21 year service in the military and retired from
active duty as a lieutenant colonel; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Grube served as the director of the National Infantry Museum from 1972 to
1995, helping to make the museum what it is today and traveling the United
States to amass the museum's many precious, historical artifacts;
and
WHEREAS,
in 2000, Mr. Grube was awarded the highest level of the Order of Saint Maurice
for his outstanding contributions to the infantry; and
WHEREAS,
a longtime history buff, Mr. Grube was involved with the Civil War Naval Museum
and was on the board of the Historic Chattahoochee Commission and Westville;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Grube was united in love and marriage for 51 wonderful years to his wife
Deanna and was blessed with three wonderful daughters, Betsy Cullinan, Jennifer
Brown, and Pegi Taylor, and six remarkable grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he
demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of
his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Grube will long be remembered for his love
of history, family, and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, patriot, and
friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Dick Grube and express
their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mr. Dick Grube.
