RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Reverend Ralph Easterwood on the occasion of his retirement; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Reverend Ralph Easterwood has demonstrated his commitment to teaching the
Gospel, witnessing Christ through word and deed, and addressing the physical,
psychological, intellectual, and spiritual needs of others; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Easterwood joined Glen Haven Baptist Church in the church's first year
as a 12 year old boy with his family in 1947 and was baptized the following
year; and
WHEREAS,
he devoted his service to Glen Haven Baptist Church in various areas for many
years before he was selected as senior pastor in 1983, including leader of the
youth group, an ordained deacon, and associate pastor; and
WHEREAS,
his vision and direction have helped Glen Haven Baptist Church grow in size and
influence, uplifting the community as a spiritual leader and place for
fellowship; and
WHEREAS,
under his leadership Glen Haven Baptist Church's slogan became "The Church That
Makes A Difference"; and
WHEREAS,
during his tenure as senior pastor, Reverend Easterwood has overseen the
building of Hardeman Hall and Easterwood Youth Center, the renovations of the
church auditorium, the formation of sports leagues, and the movement of the
church from Decatur to McDonough; and
WHEREAS,
a leader with great wisdom, Reverend Easterwood has provided 43 years of
unmatched spiritual assistance to the congregation of Glen Haven Baptist Church,
serving as a source of strength and direction for persons in all walks of life
and from all economic strata;
and
WHEREAS, Reverend Easterwood is united in love and marriage to his wife, Gwen, who has faithfully served the members of Glen Haven Baptist Church in the office for 40 years, and they have been blessed with five children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Easterwood is united in love and marriage to his wife, Gwen, who has faithfully served the members of Glen Haven Baptist Church in the office for 40 years, and they have been blessed with five children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Easterwood became involved with the Henry County Police Department upon
the church's move to McDonough and currently serves as Chaplain;
and
WHEREAS,
although his daily presence will be sorely missed upon the occasion of his
retirement as senior pastor, Reverend Easterwood plans on remaining active with
the church and his influence is sure to be felt for many years to
come.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Reverend Ralph Easterwood for his innumerable good works
rendered on behalf of persons in need, recognize this enduring example of God's
message of peace and love, and extend to him best wishes for a happy and healthy
retirement.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend
Ralph Easterwood.
