A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending the 25th annual law enforcement cookout; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the annual law enforcement cookout started with less than 50 in attendance and has grown to over 1,800 in the past year; and

WHEREAS, Wayne Dasher and Long County Sheriff Cecil Nobles began the cookout in 1987 to thank all law enforcement for the job they do and for putting their lives on the line; and

WHEREAS, the program portion of the evening provides a ready audience for state-wide elected officials to extol the excellence of Georgia's law enforcement and first responders and to assure enforcement officers to their unchanging support for those who compel obedience to Georgia's safety laws; and

WHEREAS, in recent years, first responders have been added to the honoree list, including fire fighters, emergency medical technicians, military personnel, and corrections officers; and

WHEREAS, Tattnall County Sheriff Quintin Rush, Liberty County Sheriff Don Martin, and Wayne County Sheriff John Carter joined in hosting the occasion a few years back; and

WHEREAS, the event is held in April every year, and Sheriff Craig Nobles, Cecil Nobels's son, recently stepped in to host the cookout; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the annual law enforcement cookout and all local law enforcement officers, on behalf of the citizens of this state, be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the care, courage, sympathy, and selfless dedication exhibited by law enforcement officers and first responders in carrying out the difficult duties of their vocation, extend to them their utmost appreciation for having so purely and truly defined for others the meaning of public servant, and recognize the 25th annual law enforcement cookout.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the public and the press.
