A RESOLUTION


Commending Georgia State University and recognizing March 30, 2010, as Georgia State University Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Georgia State University was founded in 1913 with an inaugural class of 48 students and over the last century has grown to a leading urban research university focused on research, service, and providing advanced educational opportunities to more than 30,000 students; and

WHEREAS, Georgia State University has the most diverse student body of any institution in this state, hosting students from all of Georgia's 159 counties and over 140 different countries; and

WHEREAS, students of Georgia State University are often the first in their family to get a college degree, work while taking classes, and are inclined to return to their communities upon graduation to invest their talents and resources for a better Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Georgia State University students have demonstrated exemplary skills in leadership, academics, and athletics which contribute to the state and local economy by creating a globally competitive base of talent for research, civic, and economic leadership; and

WHEREAS, Georgia State University's inaugural football game will be played Thursday, September 2, 2010, at the Georgia Dome, with the Panthers joining the Bulldogs and the Yellow Jackets as part of this state's great football heritage; and

WHEREAS, the students, faculty, and alumni of this fine institution are welcomed to the Gold Dome on the inaugural Georgia State University Day at the state capitol.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate Georgia State University on 97 years of providing exemplary education, recognize March 30, 2010, as Georgia State University Day at the state capitol, and extend best wishes on the Panthers' upcoming inaugural football season.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia State University Student Government Association.
