RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Lakeside High School and its Student Government Association; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Lakeside High School was constructed in 1963 and opened for its first school
year in 1964; and
WHEREAS,
over the past 48 years its community, faculty and staff, and student body have
worked together to create a very diverse and high achieving student body that is
committed to excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts; and
WHEREAS,
Lakeside High School has received numerous honors, including one of the first
State and National Schools of Excellence in 1984, and has been ranked in the top
25 among all public schools in Georgia for its SAT and ACT score averages and as
one of the top high schools for AP performance by
The Washington
Post for several years; and
WHEREAS,
Lakeside High School has excelled athletically with excellent records in 16
sports, including 36 state championships and 16 students who earned All-American
recognition for athletic accomplishments; and
WHEREAS,
Lakeside High School has an extensive fine arts program with multiple choirs,
bands, and orchestras, as well as an art program that serves over 400 students
in visual arts, photography, sculpture, art history, and design;
and
WHEREAS,
the Student Government Association (SGA) at Lakeside High School is made up of
four officers and 12 senators from each class and seven members of the SGA
executive board; and
WHEREAS,
the SGA acts as a liaison between the faculty, PTA, and students and provides
leadership within the school by sponsoring school activities and participating
in community service projects; and
WHEREAS,
the SGA has been an active part of Lakeside High School since its opening and is
a current member of the National Association of Student Councils;
and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
distinguished educational establishment be appropriately
recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Lakeside High School and its Student Government Association
for its outstanding dedication and commitment to excellence in
education.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Lakeside High
School.
