A RESOLUTION


Commending Mr. Henry David Dodson, Jr., and inviting him to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Henry David Dodson, Jr., was born on April 6, 1932, in Atlanta, a beloved son of Henry, Sr., and Christine Dodson; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Dodson spent his adolescence working on his grandparents' farm after his father passed when Henry David was only seven years old; and

WHEREAS, at the age of 20 he became a photography apprentice in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and went on to open and operate his own photography shop for several years; and

WHEREAS, he eventually returned to Atlanta and took a job at the old Fulton County Bag and Cotton Mill until he was inspired to re-open his photography business and expand it into a printing operation as well; and

WHEREAS, he conducted a low-budget grassroots campaign for one of the seats as an Alderman of the City of Atlanta in 1967, winning in 1969, and also served as chairman on the Board of Fire Masters during this time; and

WHEREAS, he became the first African American to serve on the Fulton County Commission; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Dodson was actively involved in the creation of the Fulton County Police and Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, he is blessed with five remarkable children, 11 wonderful grandchildren, and ten adored great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Dodson has served as deacon at Ebenezer Baptist Church and was one of the founding members of the Kingdom of God International Ministry in College Park where he currently serves as a trustee to the growing congregation; and

WHEREAS, his great wisdom and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his unique and effective way of conveying his point have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. Henry David Dodson, Jr., for his effective, efficient, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia and invite him to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time designated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Henry David Dodson, Jr.
