A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Miss University of Georgia 2010 Laura Lyn McLeod; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on January 16, 2010, the beautiful, intelligent, and talented Miss Laura Lyn McLeod was crowned the 2010 Miss University of Georgia at the UGA Performing Arts Center; and

WHEREAS, a fourth-year public relations student, Miss McLeod is the beloved daughter of Lyn and Bob McLeod of Pineview, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Miss McLeod is a graduate of Crisp County High School, where she was a member of the three-time region championship cheerleading squad and earned a STAR Student Award, a Certificate of Merit, and a HOPE Scholarship; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the title of 2010 Miss University of Georgia, Miss McLeod was the recipient of the Best Interview Award; and

WHEREAS, Miss McLeod is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the Golden Key Honor Society, and serves on the public relations committee for the Little Red Book magazine at the University of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, a passionate supporter of the Children's Miracle network, Miss McLeod raises funds for the organization through the UGA organization, MIRACLE, and Phi Mu Sorority; and

WHEREAS, Miss McLeod is the founder of BakPak Buddeez, Inc., a program that seeks to assist students of J.S. Pate Elementary School of Cordele in poverty level households by providing children with a backpack filled with child-friendly, healthy food on Friday afternoons to take home over the weekend; and
WHEREAS, all Georgians are proud of young women who, like Miss McLeod, represent the very best that this state has to offer; and

WHEREAS, through Miss McLeod's dedication, hard work, and extraordinary accomplishments, she stands as a shining example for other young people in this state to follow; and

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia looks with great anticipation toward the future of this bright and promising young leader.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate Miss Laura Lyn McLeod on being crowned Miss University of Georgia and wish her every success in the Miss Georgia Pageant this spring.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Miss Laura Lyn McLeod.
