A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending LifeSouth Community Blood Centers and the Five Points of Life
Foundation; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is one of the largest blood providers in the
United States, collecting and supplying blood for more than 100 medical
facilities in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida; and
WHEREAS,
LifeSouth operates 19 regions that include 30 donor centers, 41 bloodmobiles,
and 14 indoor blood drive systems, giving LifeSouth the capacity of collecting
blood at 90 venues daily; and
WHEREAS,
a nonprofit organization, LifeSouth's mission is to provide a safe blood supply
that meets or exceeds the needs of local communities and provide patients with
services in support of blood and transfusion related activities;
and
WHEREAS,
with incomparable customer service and unwavering employee excellence, LifeSouth
helps communities increase blood supplies through donations from new and
existing blood donors and making optimum use of each donation; and
WHEREAS,
LifeSouth has helped countless individuals through its work as a founding member
of the National Bone Marrow Registry and through hosting the largest event blood
drive in the country at Dragon*Con where nearly 3,000 units were collected;
and
WHEREAS,
a leader in local blood collection, LifeSouth collects more than 37,000 units
annually for Georgia hospitals and maintains partnerships with local
organizations such as the Gwinnett Braves, the Atlanta Spirit, and the Atlanta
Silverbacks to help educate communities about blood donation and the bone marrow
registry; and
WHEREAS,
one of only a handful of community cord blood centers in the country seeking FDA
licensing, LifeSouth has completed the construction of a state-of-the-art cord
blood center and has launched LifeCord, the first public cord blood bank in the
Southeast, partnering with hospitals in Georgia to collect and store umbilical
cord blood units to be available for treatment and research; and
WHEREAS,
the affiliate foundation of LifeSouth, the Five Points of Life Foundation, is
the only organization in the United States committed to education and awareness
of the five ways to share life with others through lifesaving donations of
blood, apheresis, bone marrow, umbilical cord blood, and tissue and organs;
and
WHEREAS,
the Five Points of Life Foundation is educating Georgians through its Five
Points in the Classroom and Kids Marathon programs, partnering with schools and
community organizations to engage children; and
WHEREAS,
the Five Points of Life Kids Marathon on May 5, in Atlanta, is aiding in the
battle against juvenile obesity by encouraging and inspiring children to be
active; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the dedication to improving the lives
of Georgians consistently demonstrated by this outstanding organization is
appropriately recognition.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend LifeSouth Community Blood Centers for its commitment to
providing Georgia communities with a safe blood supply that meets the needs of
local patients and recognize the Five Points Foundation for continuing to
educate Georgians on the five ways to share life with others.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to LifeSouth
Community Blood Centers.
