RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Police Sergeant Robert Joel Babb on the occasion of his
retirement; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Police Sergeant Robert Joel Babb is highly regarded by the citizens of this
state and by local government officials as a person of unquestioned integrity
and dedication to the sound principles of law enforcement; and
WHEREAS,
Sergeant Babb has diligently and conscientiously devoted his time, talents, and
energy to law enforcement for 30 years, joining the Clayton County Police
Department in 1980 and working his way up from a patrolman to a training officer
to sergeant; and
WHEREAS,
a resident of southeast Spalding County, Sergeant Babb was awarded the Medal of
Honor in 1992 for his courageous response in dealing with an escaped convict
from Arizona and stands as the only officer on the force to be bestowed with
such a prestigious honor; and
WHEREAS,
just one week later, Sergeant Babb rescued a two-year-old who was wandering
alone near a busy intersection by placing his own safety on the line and
running through traffic to reach the child and carry him to safety;
and
WHEREAS,
he has served as sergeant of the Clayton County Police Department for the past
14 years and is known for his calm demeanor, soft-spoken nature, kind heart, and
professionalism; and
WHEREAS,
Sergeant Babb has been united in love and marriage for 22 wonderful years to his
supportive wife, Karen Babb, who he trained as a patrolwoman in the mid-1980's;
and
WHEREAS,
he has exhibited extraordinary devotion to duty, outstanding loyalty, fine
leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all his duties, and his
efficient and effective commitment to excellence has been continually recognized
by his peers; and
WHEREAS,
Sergeant Babb's vision and leadership will be sorely missed upon his retirement,
as he plans to spend more time with his family and tend to his
land.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the selfless dedication exhibited by Police Sergeant Robert
Joel Babb in carrying out the difficult duties of his vocation for three
decades, extend to him their utmost appreciation for having so purely and truly
defined for others the meaning of public servant, and congratulate him on the
grand occasion of his retirement.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Police
Sergeant Robert Joel Babb.
