A RESOLUTION

Recognizing February 29, 2012, as Georgia Academy of Audiology Day at the capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, millions of American adults and children are impacted by hearing loss and balance disorders, in many cases caused by nerve damage, with many of these individuals residing in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, audiologists work collaboratively with other health care professionals to provide evaluations, diagnoses, treatments, and management for hearing loss and balance disorders; and

WHEREAS, audiologists serving Georgia are licensed professionals, many of whom hold doctoral degrees in audiology or other areas of audiology from accredited universities with special training in the prevention, identification, assessment, and treatment of hearing and balance disorders; and

WHEREAS, Georgia audiologists work in various settings, including private practice, hospitals, clinics, universities, and K-12 schools, as well as government and military practices; and

WHEREAS, Georgia has 444 licensed audiologists, with many of these individuals belonging to the Georgia Academy of Audiology, a nonprofit organization comprising audiologists and friends of audiology which was founded on October 1, 2001, to advance the profession of audiology in this state and whose many members also belong to the American Academy of Audiology; and

WHEREAS, when not treating patients, the members of the Georgia Academy of Audiology work tirelessly on healthcare policy to promote better healthcare for Georgians not only at the state but also the federal level and serve on such entities as the Georgia Commission on Hearing Impaired and Deaf Persons and as liaisons for the American Academy of Audiologists, so as to inform members of Congress of legislation impacting their patients and their profession; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished organization be recognized for the hearing and balance healthcare services its members provide to Georgians and their leadership on healthcare policy.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor and commend the Georgia Academy of Audiology and its members for their many years of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of this state, extend to them their most sincere best wishes, and recognize February 29, 2012, as Georgia Academy of Audiology Day at the state capitol.
