A RESOLUTION


Commending the Forest Park Teen Council and inviting its members to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Forest Park Teen Council is an organization that promotes interest in activities and fellowship, develops leadership, and provides opportunities for members to become better acquainted, discuss problems, share ideas and skills, work along with city leaders, plan city activities, and share city responsibilities; and

WHEREAS, the Forest Park Teen Council was officially formed in 2008 by Mayor Pro Tempore Sparkle K. Adams with a group of students from Forest Park and began to thrive in 2009; and

WHEREAS, in January of 2010, students from Forest Park Middle School, Babb Middle School, Forest Park High School, and Forest Park Street School were referred to Mayor Pro Tempore Adams to run for such offices as Teen Mayor, Councilperson, Finance Director, and City Attorney; and

WHEREAS, the student body elected 47 students to serve in these capacities during an election in February of 2010, and the teen council began holding meetings on the second Tuesday of every month, which eventually increased to the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month; and

WHEREAS, the Forest Park Teen Council participated in the annual Keep Forest Park Beautiful Clean Up in 2009, 2010, and 2011, assisted in planting the city's first community garden in 2010, and were recognized at the Black History Month Celebration, "Rising on the Southside," in 2011; and

WHEREAS, active in the community, the Forest Park Teen Council participated in the Clayton County Board of Health's Teen Summit, completed and graduated from the Forest Park Police Department's cadet program, attended Neighborhood Watch and Forest Park City Council meetings, conducted a mock trial focusing on bullying with Judge Allison Pitts, and assisted with the 5K Fun Run and the Forest Park Kiwanis Club during its semiannual pancake breakfast; and

WHEREAS, the Forest Park Teen Council members support and encourage each other to participate in personal growth opportunities, such as career focus workshops, communicating orally and in writing seminars, and other educational opportunitites; and

WHEREAS, through its many initiatives, the Forest Park Teen Council has distinctively served the community and its young citizens.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the efforts of the members of the Forest Park Teen Council to make their community a better place to live and invite them to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time designated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Forest Park Teen Council.
