A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Honorable Roger Williams on the occasion of his retirement; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Honorable Roger Williams has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced dramatically by his superlative service with the Georgia House of Representatives; and

WHEREAS, Representative Williams served five consecutive terms in the House of Representatives from 1977 to 1986 and was reelected in 2001; and

WHEREAS, he is chairman of the House Committee on Regulated Industries; on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Georgia Financial Services Association and the Georgia Community Bank; a member of the House Committee on Energy, Utilities, and Telecommunications, Industrial Relations, and Ways and Means; a member of the National Federation of Independent Businesses; past president of the Georgia Industrial Loan Association; and was the vice chairman of the House Committee on Legislative and Congressional Reapportionment; and

WHEREAS, Representative Williams was named one of the 100 most influential Georgians by Georgia Trend magazine in 2012; and

WHEREAS, he is united in love and marriage to Joann Pope Williams, and they are both members of St. Marks Episcopal Church in Dalton; and

WHEREAS, Representative Williams has served with honor and distinction with the Georgia House of Representatives, and his vision and unyielding commitment will be sorely missed upon the occasion of his retirement; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Honorable Roger Williams for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia, congratulate him upon the grand occasion of his retirement, and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Honorable Roger Williams.
