A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending School Resource Officer Shane Hope; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, School Resource Officer (SRO) Shane Hope of the Glynn County Schools Police has been recognized with a Valor Service Award from the Peace Officers Association of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, SRO Hope is highly regarded by the citizens of his community and state and by local government officials as a person of unquestioned integrity and dedication to the sound principles of law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, SRO Hope was tactically aware when an angry parent at Brunswick High School retrieved a 9mm pistol from his vehicle and walked up to him and Chief Rod Ellis in absolute rage and proceeded to spew expletives; and

WHEREAS, SRO Hope drew his weapon on the subject and waited for several tense moments while he pleaded for the man not to reach for his pistol while SRO Mark Hopper maneuvered around behind the man undetected and skillfully disarmed him; and

WHEREAS, SRO Hope used his training and experience as well as cool determination in bringing a peaceful end to the situation; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the courageous and selfless dedication of School Resource Officer Shane Hope and recognize him for receiving the Valor Service Award from the Peace Officers Association of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to School Resource Officer Shane Hope.
