RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Hazel L. Lanier McGill; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Hazel L. Lanier McGill on February 2, 2012; and
WHEREAS,
Hazel L. Lanier McGill was born on August 30, 1948, in Boston, Massachusetts, a
beloved daughter of the late Susie Holden Lanier and Douglas Lanier, Sr.;
and
WHEREAS,
a woman of deep and abiding faith, Hazel was an active member of Union Chapel
M.B. Church where she served as the Sunday school reader and was a member of the
Intercessory Team; and
WHEREAS,
Hazel was blessed with a remarkable son, Dr. Marshall Stephen McGill, and four
wonderful grandsons, Marshall Stephen II, Robert Jaye, Peter Douglas, and Paul
Lawrence; and
WHEREAS,
active in her community, Hazel had numerous affiliations, including as a member
of the Republican Senatorial Inner Circle, the National Republican Congressional
Committee, and the Republican National Committee; and
WHEREAS,
she attended Alabama A&M University where she majored in Mathematics and
went on to complete her degree at Boston University; and
WHEREAS,
she worked several years at Boston Bell as an executive administrator in Boston
before moving to Dayton, Ohio, and working at Dayton Power and Light as an
executive facilitator for 22 years; and
WHEREAS,
she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she
demonstrated to her family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example she made of
her life, she made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous woman, Hazel will long be remembered for her love
of family and friendship, and this loyal daughter, mother, grandmother, and
friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
her.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Hazel L. Lanier McGill and
express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Hazel L. Lanier McGill.
