A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mr. Cecil Turner; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mr. Cecil Turner on February 21, 2010; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Turner was born on June 16, 1918, in Turner County, Georgia, a beloved son
of Hattie and Newt Turner; and
WHEREAS,
a Boys' High School graduate, Mr. Turner earned a bachelor's degree from the
University of Georgia and a law degree from Atlanta Law School; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Turner diligently and conscientiously devoted his time, talents, and energy
to serving the people of Atlanta and Georgia as an Atlanta City Alderman from
the Sixth Ward for 12 years and as a delegate to the 1968 National Democratic
Convention; and
WHEREAS,
a dedicated public servant, Mr. Turner represented the citizens of Fulton County
in the Georgia General Assembly from 1967 to 1969 and served as an attorney in
the real estate division of the City of Atlanta's Law Department;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Turner was united in love and marriage to the late Claire A. Turner and was
blessed with the love and support of his daughter and son-in-law, Mary-Elizabeth
and William Ellard, and many nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS,
he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he
demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of
his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Turner will long be remembered for his
love of family and friendship, and this loyal father, uncle, and friend will be
missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Cecil Turner and express
their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mr. Cecil Turner.
