A RESOLUTION


Commending the Honorable John Waggoner upon the occasion of his retirement; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Honorable John Waggoner has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, this dedicated public servant has diligently and conscientiously devoted four decades of his time, talents, and energy to improving the lives of his neighbors as mayor of the City of Colbert; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Waggoner was born on October 24, 1935, in Colbert, Georgia, the beloved son of Jim and Gladys Norman Waggoner; and

WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty as a sergeant in the United States Army, valiantly and bravely protecting Americans and democracy during the Berlin Crisis and Cuban Missile Crisis; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Waggoner was elected to serve as mayor of Colbert in 1969, and for 40 years, he remained in the position with no opposition and no votes cast against him, demonstrating how his effective leadership was appreciated by the citizens of Colbert; and

WHEREAS, his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, and his sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Waggoner was united in love and marriage to his wife, Ann, on March 1, 1957, and he has been blessed with two daughters, Angie and Alisa, a son-in-law, Corey Shiflet, and two grandchildren, Austin and Peyton; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as mayor, he oversaw great prosperity and economic growth and development for the City of Colbert and its residents; and

WHEREAS, although his presence as mayor of Colbert will be sorely missed upon his retirement, his influence will be present for future generations of Colbert residents; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting that this body express its appreciation to Mayor Waggoner for the great credit he reflects on his community and this state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Honorable John Waggoner for his over four decades of outstanding, efficient, and effective service to the City of Colbert and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Honorable John Waggoner.
