A RESOLUTION


Commending Mr. James L. Conine; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. James L. Conine was born on July 2, 1939, and at 18 years old, he was drafted into the army where he served in the 101st Airborne; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Conine has been married to his wife, Ruth, for 42 years, and they have two children, Matthew and Angela, and twin grandsons, Jackson and Justin; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Conine has won the National Abraham Lincoln Speaking and Look-a-Like Competition, held in conjunction with Abraham Lincoln Days at President Lincoln's birthplace, Hodgenville, Kentucky, in 1996, 2000, and 2003; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Conine is a lifelong resident of Georgia, and he first portrayed President Lincoln for his children's scouting and school functions; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Conine's education includes an associate's degree in Civil Engineering, a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence degree; and

WHEREAS, after a career of more than 30 years as a land surveyor on the Georgia coast, Mr. Conine committed himself fully to his Abraham Lincoln presentations; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Conine travels throughout the United States and Europe, including Native American reservations in Arizona and Germany, delivering his first person portrayal of President Lincoln using President's Lincoln personal life experiences, emphasizing honesty, integrity, ambition, and patriotism to entertain, educate, and motivate his listeners.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. James L. Conine for dedicating his life to furthering the principles of President Abraham Lincoln.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. James L. Conine.
