RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Dr. Charles D. Hudson and inviting the family of Dr.
Charles D. Hudson to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Dr. Charles D. Hudson on January 19, 2012; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Hudson was elected to the LaGrange College Board of Trustees in 1961,
serving for more than a half-century on the board of Georgia's oldest private
institution of higher learning; and
WHEREAS,
elected as chairman of the board in 1970, a position he held for 25 years, he
stepped down in 1995, but remained as chairman of the executive committee until
his retirement in 2000, when he became a member of the President's Advisory
Council; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Hudson served on the Board of Trustees of Fuller E. Callaway Foundation for
39 years and Callaway Foundation, Inc., for 31 of those years; and
WHEREAS,
to honor his record of service, Callaway Foundation Inc., named the school's
swimming facility the Charles D. Hudson Natatorium in 1995, and the college's
Millennial Park was dedicated to the community in his honor in 1999;
and
WHEREAS,
he served on the Georgia Board of Corrections for 24 years, including two terms
as chairman; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Hudson's significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable
patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the
needs of his community earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues
and associates; and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of
his life, he made the world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Dr. Charles D. Hudson will long be remembered
by his colleagues, friends, and family for his immeasurable contributions and
will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Dr. Charles D. Hudson and
express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing and invite the
family of Dr. Charles D. Hudson to be recognized by the House of Representatives
at a date and time designated by the Speaker of the House of
Representatives.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Dr. Charles D. Hudson.
