RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mrs. Tina Lawson Welch; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mrs. Tina Lawson Welch on February 14, 2010;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Welch was born in Emanuel County, Georgia, a beloved daughter of the late
A.W. and Rosa Screws Lawson; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Welch diligently and conscientiously devoted her time, talents, and energy
for 27 years to the United States Department of Agriculture before her
retirement in 1984; and
WHEREAS,
she was an active member of the Emanuel County 4-H Club, assisting in the
establishment of the Sue Stanford 4-H Kitchen and helping get the 4-H Club House
moved, renovated, and named the Varner 4-H Center; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Welch was passionate about agriculture as a member of the Emanuel County
Farm Bureau and the Swainsboro Farm Bureau and was the first woman to be named
Farm Bureau Woman of the Year in 2000; and
WHEREAS,
a respected community leader, Mrs. Welch was a charter member of the Emanuel
County Pilot Club, was chairperson for the Emanuel County Cancer Society for
Sardis Primitive Baptist Church, held leadership positions with the Emanuel
County Volunteer Leaders, and was a member of the Emanuel County Chapter of the
National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Emanuel County
Historic Preservation Society; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Welch was united in love and marriage to the late W. A. "Bill" Welch and
was blessed with four wonderful children, Bonnie, Laura, John, and Harry, ten
grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she
demonstrated to her family and friends was admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example she made of
her life, she made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous woman, Mrs. Welch will long be remembered for her
love of family and friendship, and this loyal mother, grandmother, aunt, and
friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
her.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Tina Lawson Welch and
express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mrs. Tina Lawson Welch.
