A RESOLUTION


Commending Mrs. Ella Young Scott and inviting her to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Ella Young Scott has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Scott was born on October 9, 1933, in Savannah, Georgia, the beloved daughter of the late Mary W. and Harry Young; and

WHEREAS, she grew up in the "Frog Town" neighborhood and graduated from A.E. Beach High School, where she met the love of her life, her husband Fletcher L. Scott, Sr., and their blessed union gave her four remarkable children, Jessica, Felicia, Mary, and Fletcher, Jr., and two granddaughters, Constance and Shirley; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Scott was employed by the Savannah Sugar Refinery, Union Camp, and the City of Savannah; and

WHEREAS, her significant organizational and leadership talents, her remarkable patience and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state as evidenced dramatically by her 52 years of dedicated service to the Savannah Chapter #159 Order of the Eastern Star; and

WHEREAS, during her over five decades of honorable service, Mrs. Scott has held numerous leadership roles and provided invaluable direction and vision to the organization; and

WHEREAS, known affectionately as "Mama Scott," Mrs. Scott is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mrs. Ella Young Scott for her efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to her community and invite her to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Ella Young Scott.
