RESOLUTION
Honoring
and celebrating the 100th birthday of Mrs. Grace Virginia Richardson Humphrey
Cutts; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Grace Virginia Richardson Humphrey Cutts was born on March 2, 1912, in
Dawson, Georgia, a beloved daughter of Walter Revenna Richardson and Clara
Louise Cochran Richardson; and
WHEREAS,
a woman of deep and abiding faith, Mrs. Grace is a 92 year member of Adoration
Temperance Obedience Charity African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Dawson
where she has been a Sunday School teacher for more than 44 years, the church
pianist, secretary, a stewardess; and
WHEREAS,
she was united in marriage to the late Calvin Homer Humphrey, and from this
union they were blessed with one remarkable son, Calvin Walter Humphrey; three
wonderful grandchildren, Cheryle Granito Humphrey, Calvin Ricardo Humphrey, and
Kimberly Humphrey-Brown; and two adored great-grandchildren, Alida Helen Browne
and Matthew Darryl Browne; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Cutts was united in love and marriage to the late Sammie Lee Cutts for 30
wonderful years; and
WHEREAS,
despite the lack of educational facilities for African American children, Mrs.
Grace began her education at the Main Street Baptist Church, was then sent to
Lamson-Richardson School, graduated high school from Allen Normal and Industrial
School, and graduated from Georgia Normal and Agricultural College in 1949;
and
WHEREAS,
after 45 years of teaching, Mrs. Cutts retired from the classroom in 1976 and
continued to educate children with lessons she had previously taught when she
cared for them in order to allow their parents to work, most of whom continue to
visit her today; and
WHEREAS, A.T.O.C. AME Church acknowledged her dedication and presented her an award recognizing her as the Oldest Member; and

WHEREAS,
this distinguished gentlewoman has given inspiration to many through her high
ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens and she possesses the
vast wisdom which only comes through experience and the strength of character
which is achieved through overcoming the many challenges of life;
and
WHEREAS,
she is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example she has made
of her life, she makes this world a better place in which to live.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in commending and honoring Mrs. Grace Virginia Richardson
Humphrey Cutts on the occasion of her 100th birthday and wishing her many more
years of happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Grace
Virginia Richardson Humphrey Cutts.
