RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Doug J. Marchand on the occasion of his retirement; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Doug J. Marchand has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for
the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment
to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as the
executive director of the Georgia Ports Authority since 1995; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Marchand earned a bachelor's degree from Lamar University and began his
distinguished career in seaport management in 1970 at the Port of Galveston,
Texas; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Marchand began his service with the Georgia Ports Authority in April, 1994,
as director of ports and was promoted to executive director on January 1, 1995;
and
WHEREAS,
during his tenure as executive director, Mr. Marchand worked with the Georgia
Ports Authority's Board of Directors and state leadership to transform Georgia's
ports into one of this state's strongest economic engines; and
WHEREAS,
his leadership and vision have been instrumental to the Board of Directors of
the American Association of Port Authorities, the Georgia Freight Bureau, the
Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the South Atlantic Marine Terminal Conference, the
South Atlantic Caribbean Ports Association, and the International Association of
Ports and Harbors; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Marchand has been recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout his
career, including the 2004 Industrial Person of the Year Award from the Savannah
Chamber of Commerce, the
Journal of Commerce
Leadership Roll in International Trade
Award, and being named one of
Georgia
Trend's 100 Most Influential Georgians and
their 2010 Georgian of the Year; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Mr. Doug J. Marchand for his 15 years of efficient, effective,
unselfish, and dedicated service to the Georgia Ports Authority; congratulate
him upon the grand occasion of his retirement; and extend to him their most
sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Doug J.
Marchand.
