RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Amy Benson Brown; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Amy Benson Brown has been a Visiting Assistant Professor of Literature at State
University of West Georgia from 1996 to 1999, the Editor for Institutional
Planning and Research at Emory University from 1999 to 2001, the Associate
Editor for The
Academic Exchange at Emory University from
1999 to 2004, and the Director of the Author Development Program in the Center
for Faculty Development and Excellence at Emory University since 2002;
and
WHEREAS,
she is the author of
The Book of
Sarah, narrative poems that explore
pivotal points in the life of 19th century writer and abolitionist Sarah Moore
Grimké, and
Rewriting the Word:
American Women Writers and the Bible, a
study of American women's poetry and fiction examining how feminist authors
re-imagine biblical literature to strengthen the foundation of their own
authority; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Brown has published numerous academic journal articles and book chapters,
including Where
Manuscript Development Meets Faculty
Development in 2006 and
Intellectual
Initiatives at a Research University: Origins, Evolutions, and
Challenges in 2003; and
WHEREAS,
she holds a bachelor's degree in English Literature and Religion from the Honors
College of the University of South Carolina; a master's degree in English
Literature from Rutgers University; and a doctoral degree in English Literature
from Emory University; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Brown is currently in a number of professional associations, including the
Academy of American Poets, the Association of American Writing Programs, the
Georgia Writers Association, the Southern Association for Women Historians, and
the Textbook and Academic Authors Association;
and
WHEREAS, Ms. Brown has dedicated her career to providing readers with insightful and thought provoking writings and her many achievements are worthy of recognition.

NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the amazing career of Amy Benson Brown and recognize her many
accomplishments in writing.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Amy Benson
Brown.
