A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at the University of Georgia on the occasion of its 85th anniversary; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Alpha Gamma Rho was established in 1926 when a group of undergraduate students at the Georgia State College of Agriculture met in Lumpkin Hall to discuss the possibility of forming an agricultural fraternity, and from this, the Alpha Eta Chapter was organized; and

WHEREAS, a petition for a chapter with Alpha Gamma Rho was created in the fall of 1926, approved, and the Alpha Eta Chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity was founded on February 14, 1927, at the Georgia State College of Agriculture in Athens; and

WHEREAS, the founding members of the Alpha Eta Chapter were installed by Xi Chapter Noble Ruler J.M. Herrin, Jr., from Auburn University; and

WHEREAS, the charter members were Historian and Noble Ruler Robert F. Sikes, Reporter W.H. Foy, Vice Ruler Joseph C. Bell, E.A. Jackson, Noble Chaplain Claude E. Boggs, Noble Usher L.C. Lanford, E.W. Lewis, L.R. Dunson, J.H. Griffeth, Secretary John M. Keith, H.J.B. Turner, McHatton Abel, and Treasurer William A. Sutton, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, it is the only fraternity at the University of Georgia that is both a social and professional fraternity; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding work of this fine organization and its numerous contributions to the citizens of this state be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity on its outstanding contributions to this nation and the State of Georgia and congratulate it on the occasion of its 85th anniversary.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.
