A RESOLUTION


Recognizing the 2009-2010 Eagle Scouts of Troop 47 from Newnan, Georgia, and inviting them to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, in order to attain the rank of Eagle Scout, the most exceptional award in scouting, a candidate must complete a rigorous program of training and demonstrate his proficiency in selected scouting techniques and attainment of the highest ideals of scouting; and

WHEREAS, only one scout out of 97 ever reaches this lofty level of achievement, and an amazing 12 members of Troop 47 have ably evidenced their aptitude and competency in mastering the various special skills taught through the Boy Scout program in order to receive this prestigious rank; and

WHEREAS, while it is an incredibly rare distinction for 12 members from the same troop to earn the rank of Eagle Scout in the course of a year, it is an even more astonishing that many of the young men have experienced the Boy Scouts of America program together since they were in the first grade as Cub Scouts; and

WHEREAS, these dedicated and determined young leaders have juggled academics, sports, and extracurricular activities while working to attain the most distinguished rank conferred by the Boy Scouts of America; and

WHEREAS, together, these 12 hard-working young men have amassed an astounding 500 hours of service to their communities; and

WHEREAS, the group of 12 groundbreaking Newnan scouts include Jonathon Ballantyne, Richard Ebersbach, Barron Jeter, Garrett Jones, Andrew Lambert, Patrick McKee, Grayson Parker, John Robuck, Elliott Smith, Stuart Sumner, Thomas Sumner, and Grant Wagstaff; and
WHEREAS, throughout their years in the Boy Scouts of America program, these 12 young men have been led by scoutmasters Joe Wagstaff, Ben Robuck, Pat McKee, and Steve Mapel, all of whom have been instrumental in the young men's success; and

WHEREAS, these outstanding Georgians have truly exhibited a commitment to the scouting principles of honesty and fairness and have consistently conducted themselves in a manner becoming Eagle Scouts.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the 12 Eagle Scouts of Troop 47 for their diligence and dedication in pursuing the highest honor awarded by the Boy Scouts of America, congratulate them on their rare distinction as a group, and invite them to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Jonathon Ballantyne, Richard Ebersbach, Barron Jeter, Garrett Jones, Andrew Lambert, Patrick McKee, Grayson Parker, John Robuck, Elliott Smith, Stuart Sumner, Thomas Sumner, and Grant Wagstaff.
