A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Iry Jernigan; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Iry Jernigan demonstrated exceptional bravery and selfless courage on July
23, 2010, when he rescued an unconscious driver from a burning vehicle in
Augusta, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
a Navy reservist, Mr. Jernigan observed a fellow driver drift off the roadway
and strike a light pole after having a seizure; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Jernigan immediately sprang to action, coming to the unconscious car
accident victim's aid by cutting her seatbelt and removing her from her
smoldering vehicle; and
WHEREAS,
a native of East Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mr. Jernigan is currently a student at
Paine College where he participates in the school's track program and works
full-time with General Wholesale; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Jernigan's bravery and willingness to put himself in harm's way to help
another stands as a shining example of a good Samaritan; and
WHEREAS,
this amazing young man's heroic actions helped prevent serious injury or death
to a fellow Georgian and his aid to another in their time of need is worthy of
recognition.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Mr. Iry Jernigan for his courageous actions and his amazing
heroism.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Iry
Jernigan.
