A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Leroy Sherman Wiley; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Leroy Sherman Wiley on December 11, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Leroy was born on October 30, 1936, in Sparta, Hancock County, Georgia, a beloved son of James Forrest Wiley and Annie Lee (Gonder) Wiley; and

WHEREAS, he served with honor in the United States Army and with the Georgia Army National Guard in Desert Shield and active reserve in Desert Storm; and

WHEREAS, Leroy was united in love and marriage to his lovely wife Diane and was blessed with three remarkable children, Nyademor Wiley, Jessica Walls, and Mahandas Williams; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Leroy joined and served faithfully as a steward and a member of the Male and Senior Choir at St. Mark A.M.E Church; and

WHEREAS, he attended and graduated from Fort Valley State College with a bachelor's degree in science, later earned his master's degree in public education from Georgia College and State University, and furthered his studies at the University of Georgia and Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, among other colleges and universities; and

WHEREAS, Leroy was a highly respected educator in the Hancock County School System, dedicating his time, talents, and energy to challenging and inspiring the future leaders of this state; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Leroy Sherman Wiley will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal father, grandfather, uncle, husband, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Leroy Sherman Wiley and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Leroy Sherman Wiley.
