A RESOLUTION


Commending the Georgia Statewide Coalition on Blindness and recognizing January 13, 2010, as Blindness Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, established in 1998, the Georgia Statewide Coalition on Blindness is a composite of blind and visually impaired individuals, blindness organizations, agencies that serve the blind, and other interested parties; and

WHEREAS, blind and visually impaired Georgians benefit from the advocacy and resource information provided by the Georgia Statewide Coalition on Blindness; and

WHEREAS, twice a year, people who are blind or visually impaired and other interested parties gather to collaborate, advocate, and initiate resolutions addressing concerns of the blind or visually impaired in the areas of provision of services, transportation, employment, education, and policy; and

WHEREAS, the organization's leadership consists of several committed individuals: Alice Ritchart, Coalition Chairperson, Policy Committee Chairperson, and Chairperson of Committee; Vice Chairperson McArthur Jarrett; Secretary Kay McGill; Communications Secretary Stephanie Scott; Employment Committee Chairperson Teresa Brenner; Employment Committee Chairperson Kim Harrison; Education Committee Chairperson Anil Lewis; Education Committee Chairperson Kathy Segers; and Robert Smith, Policy Committee Chairperson and Transportation Committee Chairperson; and

WHEREAS, most participants in the coalition have been blind since birth, are deaf-blind, or are visually impaired and strive to advocate for improved services for the blind; and

WHEREAS, the platform derived from the Georgia Statewide Coalition on Blindness is invaluable, and it is only proper that this great organization be recognized and honored.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Georgia Statewide Coalition on Blindness for its great contribution to the citizens of Georgia and its tireless advocacy and work on behalf of visually impaired Georgians.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia Statewide Coalition on Blindness.
