RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Covington Fire Chief Don Floyd on the occasion of his retirement;
and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Covington Fire Chief Don Floyd has long been recognized by the citizens of this
state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal
commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Chief Floyd has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his
time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as
evidenced dramatically by his superlative service with the Covington Fire
Department for nearly 40 years; and
WHEREAS,
the son of Covington's first paid fire chief, Rodney T. Floyd, Chief Floyd spent
the first seven years of his life in an apartment over the city's old fire
house, and following in his father's footsteps of protecting his neighbors was a
natural choice; and
WHEREAS,
Chief Floyd joined the Covington Fire Department as a suppression firefighter in
1972 after serving four years in the United States Coast Guard and served as
fire marshal and assistant fire chief before being appointed chief in 1999;
and
WHEREAS,
under Chief Floyd's leadership, the Covington Fire Department earned the city a
fire insurance office rating of three and the department has been
internationally accredited by the Center for Public Safety Excellence since
2003; and
WHEREAS,
over the last four decades, Chief Floyd has led his crew in protecting the
property and lives of the citizens of Covington and overseen the expansion of
personnel and equipment for the department; and
WHEREAS,
Chief Floyd has served with honor and distinction during his career as a fire
fighter, and his vision and unyielding commitment will be sorely missed upon the
occasion of his retirement; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Covington Fire Chief Don Floyd for his efficient, effective,
unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia; congratulate
him upon the grand occasion of his retirement; and extend to him their most
sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Covington
Fire Chief Don Floyd.
