A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending the Collins Hill High School wrestling team on winning their fourth Class AAAAA State Championship title and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, through perseverance and iron determination, the Collins Hill High School wrestling team earned the top ranking in the state by scoring an incredible 242 points, earning the record for the largest margin of victory over their opponents, with 140 more points than the state's runner up; and

WHEREAS, this record-breaking team now holds the state title for the most state placers with 12 and earned the title of the most players to earn a state championship in Gwinnett County with five; and

WHEREAS, the team's stellar state champions include Joel Smith, Gary Tiller, T.J. Mitchell, Taylor Knapp, and Bazell Partridge; and

WHEREAS, Taylor Knapp's win marks this future Virginia Tech wrestler's third state championship while at Collins Hill, making him only the fourth wrestler in the school's history to earn this prestigious accomplishment; and

WHEREAS, a second place state finals finish was earned by C.J. Collins; a third place finish was earned by John Allgood; fourth place went to Caleb Sawchuk, Sam Hoppenbrouwer, and Mac Bennett; and Nick Holbert and Thomas Delain earned fifth and sixth place, respectively; and

WHEREAS, the Collins Hill team earned a national reputation for excellence as evidenced by their second place finish in the Toshiba Midwest Classic in Kansas City, a top 11 finish in The Clash in Minnesota, and a national ranking of 22 by Amateur Wrestling News; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team and the astute direction of Head Coach Cliff Ramos; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate the Collins Hill High School wrestling team for winning the 2009 Class AAAAA State Championship and extend their sincerest best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the players and coaches of the 2008-2009 Collins Hill High School wrestling team.
