A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Paul Weatherby on his outstanding public service; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Paul Weatherby has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced dramatically by his 20 years of superlative service as president and CEO of Cobb Electric Membership Corporation (EMC); and

WHEREAS, during Mr. Weatherby's 20 year career with Cobb EMC, he transformed the electric cooperative from an electric utility suffering a serious decline both in infrastructure and quality of service to a utility recognized as one of the most progressive nationally and internationally; and

WHEREAS, he implemented a system-wide load control program for central air conditioning, which was the first of its kind in the nation and resulted in thousands of commercial and residential customers saving millions of dollars in wholesale power costs; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Weatherby was a founder of the Oglethorpe Power Corporation, a wholesale power supplier for 39 electric cooperatives in Georgia which has grown to be one of the largest wholesale power suppliers for EMCs in America; and

WHEREAS, prior to his work with Cobb EMC, Mr. Weatherby was general manager of Amicalola EMC in Cherokee County and was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture in the area of Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Services; and
WHEREAS, a community leader in his native Cherokee County, Mr. Weatherby has served as county commissioner on the Cherokee Board of Commissioners and deacon at Hopewell Baptist Church and is active with the Chamber of Commerce, Farm Bureau, Jaycees, Lions Club, and Masons; and

WHEREAS, he has been united in love and marriage to Dot Calloway Weatherby for more than 60 wonderful years and has been blessed with remarkable children, Cindy and Steve Holcomb and Dawn and Steve Weatherby, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. Paul Weatherby for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Paul Weatherby.
