A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending 25th Annual Heart of the Community Board of Governors' Award Winner Alvin Jackson, Sr.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Alvin Jackson, Sr.'s reputation for community service and selfless dedication to others has been recognized by the Heart of the Community Foundation, Inc., and the Redmond Regional Medical Center with a 2011 Heart of the Community Board of Governors' Award; and

WHEREAS, founded in 1987, the Heart of the Community Foundation Award honors community leaders, with more than 150 individuals recognized for their altruistic service over the last 25 years; and

WHEREAS, the Heart of the Community Foundation supports local heart related activities, community education, and local charities and this year has provided support to the Wellness Trails at Historic Johnson Hill, additional AED units for the community, and continued support of the Heart House on the Redmond Campus; and

WHEREAS, the 2011 Heart of the Community Award recipients will have donations made to a local charity in their honor; and

WHEREAS, a native of Rome, Mr. Jackson graduated from Main High School and has worked in the Rome and Floyd County area for over 40 years to bring progress to the city and surrounding community; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson has uplifted the community through his service to numerous organizations, including the United Way, Rome Area History Museum, Northwest Georgia Housing Authority, Rome KARES, Rome/Floyd County Literary Task Force, Rome/Floyd County Consolidation Task Force, Floyd County Against Drugs, Department of Juvenile Justice, East Rome Community Development Committee, SPLOST Committee, and Lovejoy Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Leadership Rome, his leadership and guidance have been instrumental as a board member of Blood Assurance of Rome, a founding member of 100 Black Men of Rome/Northwest Georgia, a member of the ACC Ad Hoc Committee for the City of Rome for the NAACP, board member of Kelsey-Aycock-Burrell Center, and vice president of the Lovejoy Baptist Church Ushers Ministry; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson has been united in love and marriage to his wife, Bernice, for 43 wonderful years, and he has been blessed with two remarkable children, Alvin, Jr., and Cassandra Allen; and

WHEREAS, the benevolent and honorable deeds of this charitable man serve as a shining example of volunteerism, and the State of Georgia is honored and blessed to have Mr. Jackson as a citizen.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. Alvin Jackson, Sr., on his outstanding community service and congratulate him on his receipt of the prestigious 2011 Heart of the Community Board of Governors' Award.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Alvin Jackson, Sr.
