A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending 25th Annual Heart of the Community Award Winner Diane Harbin; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Diane Harbin's reputation for community service and selfless dedication to others has been recognized by the Heart of the Community Foundation, Inc., and the Redmond Regional Medical Center with a 2011 Heart of the Community Award; and

WHEREAS, founded in 1987, the Heart of the Community Foundation Award honors community leaders, with more than 150 individuals recognized for their altruistic service over the last 25 years; and

WHEREAS, the Heart of the Community Foundation supports local heart related activities, community education, and local charities and this year has provided support to the Wellness Trails at Historic Johnson Hill, additional AED units for the community, and continued support of the Heart House on the Redmond Campus; and

WHEREAS, the 2011 Heart of the Community Award recipients will have donations made to a local charity in their honor; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Harbin has uplifted the Rome community through her involvement in numerous organizations, including Summit Quest Adventures, Daughters of the American Revolution, Compassionate Paws, Sterile Feral, Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Georgia, Rome-Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth, St. Mary's School, Silver Creek Presbyterian Church, Rome Symphony Orchestra, and Rome Heritage Foundation; and

WHEREAS, an avid and talented gardener, Mrs. Harbin is a life member of Rome Federated Garden Clubs, is past president of Three Rivers Garden Club, and was Best Overall Project Winner in 2010 for the National Garden Clubs' Cultivating Young Minds; and

WHEREAS, the beloved daughter of Kathleen Jacobs and the late David Ray Jacobs, Mrs. Harbin is united in love and marriage to her husband, Dr. Bannester Harbin; and

WHEREAS, the benevolent and honorable deeds of this charitable woman serve as a shining example of volunteerism, and the State of Georgia is honored and blessed to have Mrs. Harbin as a citizen.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mrs. Diane Harbin on her outstanding community service and congratulate her on her receipt of the prestigious 2011 Heart of the Community Award.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Diane Harbin.
