BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Subpart 3 of Part 1 of Article 16 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official
Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to public school students' records, so as to
provide that public high schools shall provide students and parents and
guardians with the option of not releasing their personal information to
military recruiters; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws;
and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Subpart
3 of Part 1 of Article 16 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of
Georgia Annotated, relating to public school students' records, is amended by
adding a new Code section to read as follows:
"20-2-721.
(a)
Each public high school shall provide notice to each student and to the parent
or guardian of each student enrolled at the school that, in accordance with
federal law, the student or the parent or guardian of the student may request
that the student's name, address, and telephone number not be released to
military recruiters.
(b)
The notice described under subsection (a) of this Code section shall request
that the student or the parent or guardian of the student indicate if the
student's name, address, and telephone number is not to be released to military
recruiters by checking a box on the notice marked 'Do not release contact
information.'
(c)
On or before October 1 and March 1 of each school year, the principal of each
public high school shall submit a list to the local board of education that
includes the name, address, and telephone number of each student whose contact
information is not to be released to military recruiters as directed under
subsection (b) of this Code
section."
SECTION
2.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
