BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Chapter 2 of Title 31 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating
to the Department of Human Resources, so as to require the establishment of a
career track program to recruit and retain nurses in the public health system;
to provide for implementation; to provide for related matters; to repeal
conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Chapter
2 of Title 31 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to the
Department of Human Resources, is amended by adding a new Code section to read
as follows:
"31-2-10.
(a)
The department shall create and maintain a career track program designed to be
an employment model for nurses who work within the department's Division of
Public Health. Such career track program shall establish a system for
recruiting and retaining nurses within the public health system. The career
track program shall include, without limitation, a method for measuring and
evaluating the progression of training and experience requirements for public
health nurses and shall be used as a basis for determining the compensation of
such nurses.
(b)
The Office of Nursing within the department's Division of Public Health shall
lead in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the career track
program required pursuant to this Code section. Additional assistance shall be
solicited by the department from representatives of county public health
departments, schools of nursing, and other organizations with information and
expertise in nurse recruitment, salaries, career ladders, and other work
incentives.
(c)
The career track program shall be developed and implemented when funds are
available for such program as determined by the
department."
SECTION
2.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
