A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT


To amend Part 1 of Article 1 of Chapter 3 of Title 8 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to the "Housing Authorities Law," so as to establish that certain past offenses shall not disqualify applicants from access to housing provided by housing authorities; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Part 1 of Article 1 of Chapter 3 of Title 8 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to the "Housing Authorities Law," is amended by revising Code Section 8-3-12, relating to dwelling accommodations for person of low income, by adding a new subsection to read as follows:
"(c) With respect to tenant selection, an authority shall not disqualify an applicant who is otherwise a person of low income based solely on a past misdemeanor conviction, provided that such person of low income has not been convicted for any other offense for a period not less than five years after such past misdemeanor conviction."

SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
