151st GENERAL ASSEMBLY

SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 76

RECOGNIZING MARCH 11, 2022 AS COVID-19 DAY OF REMEMBRANCE IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, in December 2019 a highly contagious and lethal novel strain of coronavirus, COVID-19 was detected; and

WHEREAS, the virus began to spread throughout the world, which prompted the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on January 30, 2020, and global pandemic on March 11, 2020; and 

WHEREAS, The State of Delaware’s first known COVID-19 case was confirmed on March 11, 2020, and whereas COVID-19 has proven over the past two years to be resource depleting, rapidly developing, and destructive to all industries and sectors of society; and

WHEREAS, since March 11, 2020, we have lost thousands of our beloved Delawareans to this virus and as of March 10, 2022, Delaware has detected 257,848 positive COVID-19 cases and 2,753 deaths as a result of COVID-19; and

WHEREAS, health care and technology advancements have enabled immunizations to help protect Delawareans.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 151st General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that March 11, 2022 is hereby recognized as COVID-19 Day of Remembrance. 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that on this date, the 151st General Assembly joins all Delawareans in remembering the lives we have lost, and also the lives we have saved from COVID-19, as well as honoring Delaware’s essential and frontline workers, including health care professionals, public health professionals, educators, law enforcement and public safety personnel, and first responders.

SYNOPSIS

This resolution recognizes March 11, 2022 as COVID-19 Day of Remembrance in the State of Delaware.
