146th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 36

THANKING THE PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION (THE "PTA") FOR ITS 115 YEARS OF SERVICE AND DEDICATION TO OUR CHILDREN, OUR SCHOOLS AND OUR COMMUNITIES.



WHEREAS, the national PTA has worked for more than 100 years to promote the welfare of our children in our homes, schools, and communities; and

WHEREAS, the PTA has a long history of helping to create and support laws to protect our children; and

WHEREAS, the PTA's many accomplishments over the years have included the creation of kindergarten classes, child labor laws, a public health service, hot lunch programs, a juvenile justice system, and mandatory immunizations; and

WHEREAS, the PTA is working diligently to educate its members, educators, administrators and community leaders on the implementation of the Common Core State Standards in classrooms; and

WHEREAS, the PTA is currently the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the nation; and

WHEREAS, PTA members work long hours, often without recognition or thanks, to unite educators and the general public to secure for all children the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education; and

WHEREAS, the PTA is important to the continued success of public education in Delaware and throughout the nation.

NOW, THEREFORE

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 146th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that we hereby congratulate and thank the parents, teachers, community members, business leaders and students who are involved in the PTA.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, upon passage, a suitable copy of this Resolution shall be presented to the Delaware State PTA on April 25, 2012, this year's "State PTA Day" in Delaware.


SYNOPSIS

This Concurrent Resolution commends the Parent Teacher Association for its 115 years of service, as well as on the Association's efforts to educate others on the Common Core State Standards.It also recognizes April 25, 2012, as "State PTA Day" in Delaware.
