153rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 217
PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 6, 2026, AS "NATIONAL COACHES DAY" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.
WHEREAS, National Coaches Day honors the dedicated men and women who motivate, guide, and inspire others to work hard and strive to achieve their best; and
WHEREAS, coaches play a pivotal role in the lives of nearly 8 million high school athletes across the United States, helping students navigate challenges on and off the field; and
WHEREAS, coaches in Delaware and throughout the nation contribute countless hours to planning practices, training, mentoring youth, and modeling perseverance and teamwork; and
WHEREAS, the first National Coaches Day was recognized by President Richard Nixon in 1972; and
WHEREAS, the proclamation that President Nixon signed stated: "Coaches are highly qualified teachers—in highly specialized fields. But more than that, they are friends and counselors who help instill in their players important attitudes that will serve them all their lives"; and
WHEREAS, surveys consistently show that most parents believe coaches have a lasting, positive impact on young athletes’ lives, fostering essential skills such as leadership, discipline, and collaboration; and
WHEREAS, 61% of Americans believe coaches do not receive the recognition and appreciation they deserve despite the countless volunteer hours they give and the vital role they play in developing confident, resilient citizens; and
WHEREAS, coaches are champions of sportsmanship and integrity, guiding individuals to pursue excellence with respect and accountability in every arena.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 153rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that October 6, 2026, is hereby proclaimed “National Coaches Day” in the State of Delaware.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the General Assembly encourages Delawareans to recognize and thank coaches across the State for their service, mentorship, and positive influence on young people and their communities.
SYNOPSIS
This Senate Concurrent Resolution proclaims October 6, 2026, as “National Coaches Day” in the State of Delaware.
