SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 211
RECOGNIZING SEPTEMBER 24 - 27, 2026, AS “FIRST RESPONDER SUICIDE AWARENESS DAYS" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.
WHEREAS, in 2021 First H.E.L.P. (Honor, Educate, Lead, Prevent) created National First Responder Suicide days to acknowledge the issue, support the families, and continue to raise awareness with an aim to end suicide; and
WHEREAS, the first official National First Responder Day was September 24, 2021, and was called National Firefighter Suicide Awareness Day; and
WHEREAS, September 25, 2021 was called National Emergency Medical Services Suicide Awareness Day; and
WHEREAS, September 26, 2021 was called National Law Enforcement Officer Suicide Awareness Day; and
WHEREAS, September 27, 2021 was called National Telecommunications Suicide Awareness Day; and
WHEREAS, these days should be set aside every year to focus on suicide awareness, offer solutions, and honor those we lost. Just one first responder suicide is one too many. It is up to us to break the stigma and ensure that everyone knows that they are not alone; and
WHEREAS, suicide continues to outpace line of duty deaths and we must recognize the emotional sacrifice made by first responders and their families; and
WHEREAS, we want to ensure that we focus on this issue and never forget that first responders should be honored by the service they gave to their communities, that their families are supported in the aftermath, and we encourage others to seek help when needed.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 153 rd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that September 24, 2026 is recognized as Firefighter Suicide Awareness Day.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that September 25, 2026 is recognized as Emergency Medical Services Suicide Awareness Day.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that September 26, 2026 is recognized as Law Enforcement Officer Suicide Awareness Day.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that September 27, 2026 is recognized as Telecommunications Suicide Awareness Day.
SYNOPSIS
This Concurrent Resolution recognizes September 24, 2026 as Firefighter Suicide Awareness Day, September 25, 2026 as Emergency Medical Services Suicide Awareness Day, September 26, 2026 as Law Enforcement Officer Suicide Awareness Day, and September 27, 2026 as Telecommunications Suicide Awareness Day in Delaware.
