147th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.

PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF MAY AS COMMUNITY ACTION MONTH.

WHEREAS, community action agencies were created when the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 was signed into law; and

WHEREAS, First State Community Action Agency has more than a 49-year history of promoting self-sufficiency for the limited income; and

WHEREAS, First State Community Action Agency has made an essential contribution to individuals and families in Delaware by providing them with innovative and cost effective programs; and

WHEREAS, welfare reform in Delaware has benefited from the state's partnership with First State Community Action Agency; and

WHEREAS, those with limited income continue to need opportunities to improve their lives and their living conditions, thus ensuring that all citizens are able to live in dignity; and

WHEREAS, Delaware and the entire United States must continue to wage war on poverty by providing support and opportunities for all citizens in need of assistance;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 147^th General Assembly of the State of Delaware that May be proclaimed Community Action Month.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitably prepared copy of this resolution be presented to First State Community Action Agency.
