HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 7

 

RECOGNIZING MARCH 30, 2017 AS "DOCTORS' DAY" IN DELAWARE.

 

 

 

WHEREAS, On March 30 th , Doctors’ Day is held to honor physicians for the care they provide to Delawareans and the scientific contributions they have made to the medical field; and  

WHEREAS, Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, introduced the first Doctors’ Day on March 30, 1993; and 

WHEREAS, on March 30, 1958, the United States House of Representatives adopted a resolution recognizing Doctors’ Day; and 

WHEREAS, in 1990, George H.W. Bush signed Senate Joint Resolution 336 designating March 30 th  as National Doctors’ Day; and 

  WHEREAS, the red carnation is used as the symbol of Doctors’ Day and signifies love, charity, sacrifice, and bravery; and 

WHEREAS, Doctors’ Day recognizes the contributions of physicians in enlarging the reservoir of scientific knowledge, increasing the number of scientific tools, and expanding the ability of health professionals to use the knowledge and tools effectively in the never-ending fight against disease; and

WHEREAS, observing Doctors’ Day also acknowledges physicians for the sympathy and compassion they display in ministering to the sick and in alleviating human suffering; and 

NOW, THEREFORE: 

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 149th General Assembly of the State of Delaware that March 30, 2017 is designated “Doctors’ Day” in Delaware.

 

SYNOPSIS

This resolution designates March 30, 2017 as "Doctors' Day" to recognize the valuable contributions made by physicians in Delaware.
