PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF MARCH 23-27, 2015 AS NATIONAL WORK ZONE AWARENESS WEEK IN DELAWARE. |
WHEREAS, Work Zone Awareness Week was established by the Federal Highway Administration, the American Traffic Safety Services Association, and the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials as a national event fifteen years ago to focus attention on work zone safety and work zone workers; and
WHEREAS, the number of work zone fatalities has dropped significantly since the event's inception; and
WHEREAS, road work is recognized as a hazardous occupation; and
WHEREAS, there are still a considerable number of individuals injured or killed in roadway work zones each year; and
WHEREAS, this year's theme of "Expect the Unexpected" is an important reminder to exercise caution while driving through work zones and to contribute to the safety of work zone workers; and
WHEREAS, Delaware's work zone workers are dedicated to repairing the destruction caused by the cold and snowy winter season; and
WHEREAS, drivers should be encouraged to practice safe driving practices especially with the commencement of the spring construction season; and
WHEREAS, it is important to urge all citizens to slow down and devote their undivided attention to work zones and watch for the men and women who are working to improve our state's roads, highways, and bridges.
NOW, THEREFORE;
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 148th General Assembly of the State of Delaware that we do proclaim the week of March 23-27 as National Work Zone Awareness Week in Delaware, and call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
