CELEBRATING THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST STATE BALLET THEATRE |
WHEREAS,
WHEREAS, During the past ten years First State Ballet Theatre has brought the beauty and excitement of live ballet to stages throughout Delaware and beyond, and performed regularly in all three counties in the state; and
WHEREAS,
the First State Ballet Theatre has served more than 7,000
WHEREAS,
the First State Ballet Theatre has enhanced
• Commissioned major works from internationally recognized choreographers;
• Founded and presented four Arabesque international festivals of classical and contemporary ballet, bringing more than 50 guest artists from around the globe to the main stage of Wilmington's Grand Opera House;
• Performed, by special invitation, at the Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy; the only Delaware performing arts company to be so honored;
• Had students and ensembles from its school ranked in the top 12 young dancers in the world by distinguished panels of international judges at the Youth America Grand Prix, the world's largest ballet competition for pre-professional dancers; and
WHEREAS, the First State Ballet Theatre also has helped establish Wilmington as a center of cultural tourism for ballet, attracting patrons from throughout the mid-Atlantic region, from Richmond, to Pittsburgh, to New York City and Rhode Island; and
WHEREAS, the First State Ballet Theatre has initiated collaborations with other distinguished Delaware artists and arts institutions including Charles Parks, SPARX, the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, Opera Delaware, the Grand Opera House and others; and
WHEREAS, the First State Ballet Theatre has finished every year of its first decade in a strong financial position through the pro bono efforts of professionals in more than a dozen disciplines, who believe that the arts are essential to a healthy society.
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 145th General Assembly, that we hereby recognize and commend the First State Ballet Theatre for celebrating its tenth anniversary and for its decade of impressive accomplishments.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution shall be presented upon passage to Mr. Robert Grenfell, the President and Executive Director of the First State Ballet Theatre.
